A powerful explosion ripped through the Latifabad area of Hyderabad in Pakistan’s Sindh province on Tuesday, leaving six people dead and 23 others injured, according to early reports. The blast occurred near the Mochi Goth Airport and is believed to have been triggered by a fire at a local firecracker manufacturing unit, which then detonated with devastating force.

The explosion completely levelled the factory, reducing the structure to rubble and trapping several individuals beneath the debris. Rescue teams, police, and Pakistan Rangers immediately rushed to the scene, where search and relief operations are ongoing. Officials fear the death toll could rise as emergency workers continue to sift through the wreckage for survivors.

Videos circulating on social media show thick clouds of smoke, shattered structures, and residents scrambling for safety as panic spread across the neighbourhood. The impact of the blast was felt several kilometres away, prompting nearby shops and homes to evacuate.

Local authorities stated that the initial fire inside the fireworks building quickly intensified, triggering a chain reaction that led to the massive explosion. Given that firecracker units often store highly flammable materials, such accidents have proven fatal in the past, especially in densely populated localities.

Suicide Bombing Outside Islamabad Court

In a separate tragic incident earlier the same day, at least 12 people were killed and 27 injured in a suicide bombing outside a local court in Islamabad’s G-11 sector. According to Pakistani news outlet Dawn, the blast occurred near the court’s entrance, claiming multiple lives instantly.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the attack site shortly after the incident, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Security around Islamabad has since been tightened, with investigators examining links between the attack and recent militant activity in the region.

Rescue Efforts Continue

Back in Hyderabad, emergency responders are working tirelessly to retrieve those still believed to be trapped under collapsed concrete and mangled metal. Hospitals in the region have been placed on high alert, with medical teams treating victims suffering from burns, fractures, and blast-related injuries.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the firecracker factory blast, focusing on whether safety lapses or illegal storage of explosives may have contributed to the tragedy.
