US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Department of State on Friday. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s “everlasting sacrifices in the war on terror”. “Pakistan has always played a positive role in global and regional peace,” the FO quoted the US Secretary of State as saying.

Rubio's shocking praise for Pakistan

The shocking statement came despite the fact that Pakistan-sponsored terrorists carried out America's worst terror attack on the World Trade Centre. On September, 2001, a Boeing 767 jet flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Lower Manhattan. Eighteen minutes later, another plane crashed into the South Tower. Within 2 hours, both towers had collapsed. This resulted in the death of nearly 3,000 people.

Later in 2011, the US military killed Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil, who was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. The US Navy SEAL team raided a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and killed Osama bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda. The operation, codenamed "Neptune Spear," was a covert mission approved by President Barack Obama.

Dar's praises Trump for India-Pakistan ceasefire

In return, Dar tried to please the Trump administration by paying "tribute" to the efforts of the US President and the efforts regarding the recent Pakistan-India tension.
Ever since Donald Trump claimed he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Islamabad has consistently backed his claims, despite the fact that India has rejected Trump's claim.

Dar’s visit comes as Pakistan holds the presidency of the UNSC this month. Pakistan assumed the UNSC presidency for July, marking its first presidency since 2013. Islamabad began its current two-year term as a non-permanent member in January 2025 and will serve through the end of 2026.

When Trump hosts Asim Munir in White House

Earlier last month, in a rare gesture, Trump hosted Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir at the White House, weeks after India and Pakistan were locked in a four-day military conflict.
The closed-door luncheon meeting came amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with Trump exploring Washington's possible involvement. Islamabad is known for its close ties with Tehran.
