Pakistan Jaffar Express Attack: A violent attack on the Jaffar Express near the Sultankot area, close to the Sindh-Balochistan border, left multiple passengers injured on Tuesday. An improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the tracks triggered the explosion, derailing several coaches of the Quetta-bound passenger train, officials said.
Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the site following the blast. Medical teams started giving emergency treatment to the injured at the site, while security agencies cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties. According to local media reports, multiple injuries have been confirmed, and the full extent of the incident is under investigation. Railway operations in the region have been fully suspended as authorities clear the wreckage and inspect the tracks for additional explosives.
History Of Attacks On Jaffar Express
This is the third time the Jaffar Express has been targeted. An IED blast in August 2025 left six coaches of the train derailed in Mastung district, and several passengers suffered minor injuries.
Earlier, in March 2025, terrorists had taken over the train that had over 400 passengers onboard in nine bogies when it was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. In the attack, militants had fixed explosives in tunnels and on tracks before they started firing at passengers in the Dhadar region of Bolan Pass. The assailants killed a minimum of 21 passengers before security personnel could start clearing the area.
The operation, conducted by the Pakistani Army in the mountainous Sibi district, finally released the train and its occupants. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) afterward affirmed that no passenger was injured during the operation to clear the hijacking, although the hijacking was one of the deadliest attacks on Pakistan's rail network in a number of years.
The repeated targeting of the Jaffar Express underscores persistent security challenges in Balochistan. The latest attack on the Jaffar Express highlights the ongoing volatility in Balochistan and the need for strengthened security along the border regions connecting Sindh and Balochistan.
