Seven passengers were injured on Tuesday when an explosion on the track led to four bogies of the Jaffar Express derailing near Sultan Kot, between Shikarpur and Jacobabad in Pakistan's Sindh province. This is the seventh attack on the Quetta-Peshawar train this year. The explosion, according to local authorities, took place at around 8:15 am. The injured passengers were immediately transferred to Shikarpur Civil Hospital. The train was traveling to Quetta via Jacobabad when the blast occurred. The derailment notwithstanding, railway officials assured that services on the route would not be halted.
Minister Points To ‘Foreign Hand’
Pakistan’s Railway Minister on Wednesday, Hanif Abbasi, blamed India for orchestrating repeated attacks on the Jaffar Express, alleging that New Delhi was using militant proxies to destabilise Pakistan. “The terrorists targeting Jaffar Express again and again are, in fact, proxies of India that is not ready to digest and bear the defeat it faced during operation Bunyan Al Marsoos,” Abbasi told Dawn.

He further alleged that India was still reeling from its losses during the “May war” and was now resorting to targeting Pakistan’s infrastructure. Abbasi labeled the derailments as “cowardly acts” and insisted that India’s intelligence agencies were directly behind the explosions.
Repeated Target Of Attacks
The Jaffar Express, an important passenger service linking Quetta and Peshawar, has suffered a string of violent attacks in 2025. The deadliest came in March, when militants hijacked the train and killed 21 passengers. Since then, the train has been targeted at least six more times, including Tuesday’s bombing.
Railway officials have vowed not to suspend operations despite the dangers. “The train will continue operating as per routine, as we will never be afraid of such attacks,” Abbasi said.
Abbasi failed to present evidence for his accusations against India. This is not the first time that Islamabad has blamed New Delhi for supporting attacks against Pakistani territory. After the March hijacking of the Jaffar Express, Pakistan also alleged that the perpetrators were linked to handlers in Afghanistan, working under Indian direction.
