Philippines is situated on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", a region that often experiences frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes because of active tectonic plate movements. Slight tremors are frequent throughout the archipelago, but more powerful earthquakes can result in massive destruction and loss of life.A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Abra province in northern Luzon in July 2022, causing landslides and ground fissures that claimed the lives of 11 individuals and injured more than 600.
