Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome at the Parliament of Namibia on Wednesday as he addressed a joint session of the legislative body. Lawmakers gave him a standing ovation, and chants of "Modi, Modi" echoed through the chamber, highlighting the warmth and respect with which the Indian leader was received during his historic visit.
In his speech, PM Modi emphasised India’s vision of partnership, not power, in global relations, particularly with Africa. “We seek not to compete, but to cooperate. Our goal is to build together. Not to take, but to grow together,” he said, adding that India’s development partnership in Africa exceeds USD 12 billion, but its real worth lies in "shared growth and shared purpose."
He stressed that Africa should not remain merely a supplier of raw materials, but must rise as a hub of value creation and sustainable industrialisation. He reaffirmed India’s full support for Africa’s Agenda 2063, the continent’s blueprint for inclusive and sustainable development.

Shared Vision For Future
Striking a philosophical tone, PM Modi said, “Let us create a future defined not by power, but by partnership. Not by dominance, but by dialogue. Not by exclusion, but by equity. This will be the spirit of our shared vision.”
He called on both nations to ensure that the next generation inherits not just the freedom fought for by earlier generations, but also a future built through joint efforts and mutual respect. In a lighter vein, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to Namibia for its role as co-host of the 2027 Cricket World Cup, drawing laughter and applause when he said, “If your Eagles need any cricket tips, you know whom to call.”

Strengthening Bilateral Relationship
PM Modi’s speech is part of a broader effort to deepen ties between India and Namibia, a key partner in Africa. His address follows a series of meetings with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and enthusiastic interactions with the Indian diaspora.
As he concluded his speech and stepped down from the podium, lawmakers once again stood in ovation, symbolizing a renewed commitment to friendship between the two nations. Modi also took time to personally greet members of the Namibian Parliament, leaving behind an atmosphere of mutual admiration and growing diplomatic synergy.
