However, it’s important to note that this figure does not reflect personal wealth, but rather the institutional benefits and privileges attached to the papal office. These included access to a papal residence, five official vehicles, and international travel arrangements funded by the Vatican. None of these assets were considered personal property of Pope Francis—they were tied to his role as the pontiff.

The Economic Times also highlighted that although Francis renounced his salary, he still had access to the resources and amenities provided to him through the Vatican. Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis consistently rejected the opulence often associated with his position. He famously chose to reside in the simpler Casa Santa Marta guesthouse rather than the traditional papal apartments.
