As August 31 marked the 29th anniversary of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassination by Khalistani terrorists, pro-Khalistan radical groups in Canada held rallies to honour the assassin on Saturday. The float paid “homage” to the suicide bomber who killed Singh in 1995, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Convoys and rallies were held in Toronto to commemorate the "sacrifice" of Dilawar Babbar.

The float read, “Human Bomb Sacrificed Life to Stop Sikh Genocide,” while also paying homage to Dilawar Singh Babbar, the suicide bomber who carried out the assassination.

Beant Singh became the Chief Minister of Punjab in February 1992, marking a significant moment in the state's history as it followed five years of President's rule. His appointment came during a period of considerable instability in Punjab, with Khalistani terrorists continuing to cause turmoil despite the killing of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Several protests have repeatedly targeted India’s senior officials and missions in Canada. The number of protests targeting India’s senior officials and missions in Canada has exceeded 20.

In June this year, pro-Khalistan supporters staged protests at the Indian Consulate in Vancouver to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Operation Blue Star. The protests included a float depicting the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.

Earlier this year, India heavily vcriticised Canada after a parade organised by the Ontario Gurdwara Committee featured separatist slogans and offensive floats, including one targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India urged Ottawa to stop providing a safe haven to criminal and secessionist elements.
