As Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepares to travel to Florida for a crucial meeting with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a sharp warning, signalling that Moscow is ready to intensify military operations if diplomatic efforts do not succeed. The war, now nearing its fourth year, remains locked in a deadly stalemate.
On Saturday, Putin accused Ukraine of showing “little urgency” in seeking a peaceful settlement. “If the Kyiv authorities do not want to resolve the matter peacefully, we will accomplish all the tasks before us in the course of the special military operation by military means,” Putin was quoted as saying by Russian state news agency TASS.
Heavy Missile Barrage Hits Kyiv
Putin’s remarks followed a major Russian assault on the Ukrainian capital. On Friday, Russia launched several Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, four Iskander ballistic missiles and multiple Kalibr cruise missiles at Kyiv. According to CNN, the attack lasted more than 10 hours, severely disrupting daily life and causing widespread power outages across the city.
The Kremlin leader also accused what he termed the “Kyiv regime” of deliberately delaying negotiations, raising concerns that the conflict could escalate further in the absence of meaningful diplomatic engagement.
Zelensky To Present Peace Plan To Trump
The warning comes as Zelenskyy is set to meet Trump in Florida, where he is expected to present a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long war. Trump has suggested that any potential peace agreement would require his approval. Zelenskyy has indicated that discussions with Trump will centre on long-term security guarantees for Ukraine and the role of international partners in ensuring post-war stability.
Diplomatic Push With NATO, EU And Canada
Ahead of the US visit, Zelenskyy held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, as well as leaders from NATO and the European Union. Emphasising the need for firmness, Zelenskyy wrote on X that strong positions were required “both on the frontlines and in diplomacy” to prevent Moscow from prolonging the war.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the latest Russian attacks on Kyiv as “barbaric” and stressed that lasting peace would require cooperation from Moscow. Speaking in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Carney announced USD1.82 billion in new economic assistance for Ukraine, aimed at supporting reconstruction efforts even as the war continues.
