In an interview with Canada-based TAG TV, Baloch American Congress Secretary General Razzak Baloch has alleged that almost 70 to 80 per cent of Balochistan is now out of reach of the Pakistani military, reporting a stark increase in the security situation in the restive province. The claims come in the background of Operation Herof, a big military drive carried out by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) to resist the military control of Pakistan over Balochistan. The operation, conducted in August 2024, has reportedly been witnessed with more than 71 well-coordinated attacks carried out at 51 regions against military resources and infrastructure.

Razzak Baloch described the bleak reality on the ground in Pakistan's most populous province.
“From 5 PM to 5 AM, roads are deserted by the army out of fear,” he said, even Pakistani lawmakers have openly admitted the military’s inability to operate freely outside Quetta during nighttime. He again reaffirmed that mass-scale protests are continuing throughout Balochistan and mentioned the ongoing arrests of senior Baloch activist Marang Baloch. Razzak appealed for further international intervention, specifically by India and the US, to overthrow Pakistani strongholds in urban areas like Chowhni and Quetta.

Call for Foreign Support: "India Must Not Wait"

Responding to a question whether India can accommodate a Baloch government-in-exile, Razzak said,
“We do not beg. We speak with our masculinity.” However, he stressed that if India supports the Baloch freedom cause, “the doors of Balochistan will open to India.” He warned that any delay in global support would not only strengthen Pakistan's 'barbarian army', will affect the regional peace and security too.

“Before Pakistan’s army leaves its boots behind like in Bangladesh, it is better to withdraw with dignity,” he cautioned and called on democratic countries to invite Baloch representatives and accept their right to self-determination.

What Is Operation Herof?

Operation Herof is a multi-phase campaign by the Baloch Liberation Army launched in August 2024 to retake Balochistan from Pakistani military occupation. According to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, over 130 Pakistani soldiers have been killed since the launch of the operation. The group claims to have temporarily seized military installations, key highways, and strategic checkpoints, including a 20-hour occupation of a military complex in Bela.

In a May 11 statement, the BLA claimed its militants conducted targeted attacks on army convoys, security check-posts, and mineral-transport vehicles.
• At least 14 different locations in Quetta were said to have been grenade-attacked, resulting in four soldiers dead and 11 injured.
• In Mastung, BLA militants allegedly attacked a convoy, burning mineral-loaded vehicles.
• In Nushki, militants took over AhmedWal Railway Station and a Levies post, looting weapons and burning down the facilities.
• Remote-controlled IEDs, sniper fire, and roadside ambushes were reported in Zamuran, Tolangi, and Kuluki.
• Temporary BLA checkpoints were set up in Kech, Panjgur, and Hoshab, detaining police and seizing weapons including Kalashnikovs, G3 rifles, and grenade launchers.

Calling on India and global powers to declare Pakistan a terrorist state, the BLA warned that continued international tolerance of Islamabad’s policies could “lead to the ruin of the entire world.”
