A video claiming that Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, has woken up from a coma after 20 years sparked social buzz. Though its misleading, It does not show the Sleeping Prince, but instead features Saudi billionaire and motorsport personality Yazeed Mohamed Al-Rajhi. Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, who turned 36 in April 2025, has been in a coma since a traumatic car accident in 2005. The young prince was studying at a military academy in the United Kingdom at the time of the crash. The crash inflicted a severe head injury that left him unconscious and on life support. He is currently receiving medical care at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh and has been fed through a tube for nearly two decades.
The video, posted extensively on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, falsely claimed that the prince had regained consciousness and was reunited with family members. The individual appearing in the video was not Prince Al-Waleed but Yazeed Al-Rajhi, a popular Saudi Arabian businessman and motorsport personality. Social media users were quick to point out the mistake, and fact-checkers have since debunked the claim. The video still, however, triggered confusion and hope among the royal family's followers.

How Is He Related To The King?
Although a member of the influential Saudi royal family, Prince Al-Waleed is not a member of direct relative of the current monarch. His grandfather, Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, was the son of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. This makes Prince Al-Waleed a great-grandson of King Abdulaziz and a great-nephew of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the current monarch.
In 2015, physicians are said to have suggested to the prince's father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, that life support be discontinued because of the extended coma and absence of significant progress in recovery. He refused, however, showing hope in divine intervention. "If God wanted him to die in the crash, he would be in his grave today," his father said to the local media.

In a short glimmer of hope in 2019, the prince exhibited minor movements, including lifting his finger and rotating his head. But medical professionals stated these did not represent a complete recovery. Despite his illness, Prince Al-Waleed is still in the spotlight, particularly during landmark events like his birthday. During April 2025, several users on X posted tributes, prayers, and throwback photos of the prince, referring to him as a symbol of endurance and faith.
