Shubhanshu Shukla's Homecoming Live Updates: Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to go to space in more than four decades, has returned safely to Earth after the historic 18-day mission on the International Space Station (ISS). The triumphant return is a major milestone for India's ambitious Gaganyaan manned spaceflight program, officials from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed on Monday. This was a memorable experience for Shubhanshu Shukla, he stated. He performed several scientific experiments on the Space Shuttle and the ISS. This mission will be of big learning opportunity for our Gaganyaan programme," commented Nilesh M Desai, Director, Space Applications Centre, ISRO.
The Ax-4 crew's trip was the fourth private mission to the ISS by Axiom Space in collaboration with NASA and SpaceX. During their 18-day stay, the Ax-4 crew conducted more than 60 scientific studies and over 20 outreach events. The SpaceX Dragon will return to Earth with over 580 pounds of cargo, including valuable NASA hardware and research data from the mission’s experiments.
With Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission, India has entered a new chapter in human spaceflight, becoming part of a fully private mission to the ISS for the first time. The mission paves the way for future ISRO human spaceflight collaborations and strengthens India’s presence in global space exploration efforts.

Shubhanshu Shukla's Homecoming Live Updates: How He Took His Last Group Photo Aboard ISS?
Unlike on Earth, astronauts can’t rely on strangers to click a quick group selfie. Instead, Anne McClain, A Crew-10 Commander explained, the crew set up a camera with a timer to take a photo every five seconds. ,
How do we take group photos in space? We cannot ask a passerby for help, so we set up a camera to take a photo every 5 seconds, get in position, then stop to smile at the camera. Looks a little chaotic, but it works! pic.twitter.com/0pJpj0o0gE, — COL Anne McClain (@AstroAnnimal) July 14, 2025
The viral video shows the entire Axiom-4 crew drifting weightlessly, trying to align themselves while the camera clicks in bursts. “It’s a little dance every time. In zero gravity, someone always ends up upside down!” McClain joked. This final group photo has become symbolic of Shukla’s homecoming. “No fancy setup — just teamwork, timing, and a lot of floating around. That’s how you capture memories in space,” she added.
