Su-57 Ukraine News: Ukraine on Sunday claimed that its air force struck the ultra-advanced Russian fighter jet Su-57 nearly 600 kilometres from the front lines inside the country's territory after Western allies allowed it to use their fighter planes for limited strikes against Moscow. The strike took place while Russia's Su-57 fighter jet was standing at Akhtubinsk airfield. The news of the attack was also confirmed by popular Russian pro-war military blogger Fighterbomber.
Kyiv's intelligence agencies shared post-operation photos of the strike, which showed dark soot and smoke coming from the site. If true, this would mark the first-ever attack on Russia's most advanced stealth fighter jet.
Though the agencies did not immediately confirm which weapon was used in the attack, reports suggested that it was likely hit by an array of drones.
"The pictures show that on June 7, the Su-57 was standing intact, and on June 8, there were craters from the explosion and characteristic spots of fire caused by fire damage near it," the GUR intelligence agency wrote on its official Telegram channel, with pictures of the attack.
Ukraine and Russia are fighting a full-scale battle that started in February 2022 after Moscow announced a limited military offensive, alleging Ukraine's bid to join NATO. Since the war started, a huge loss of lives and property has been reported on both sides. While Ukraine lacks the advanced weaponry to hit long-range targets deep inside Russian territory, it uses drones provided by its Western allies to strike its neighbour.
Su-57: Russia's Ultra Modern Fighter Jet
The Su-57, Russia's fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, features advanced stealth capabilities, supermaneuverability, and Mach 2+ speed. Equipped with advanced avionics, AESA radar, and a weapons bay for missiles and bombs, it excels in air superiority and ground attack roles. The price per unit is around USD 40 million.
