In an unusual incident in Nebraska, the sweet cravings of an opossum landed her in a wildlife rehab as she became severely ill after eating an entire Costco chocolate cake. Real estate agent Kim Doggett, residing in Gretna, Nebraska, discovered the chocolate covered opossum longing on her beige couch.
“She didn’t look so great — she was kind of panting. I couldn’t believe the whole cake was gone. I started thinking, Is chocolate poisonous for opossums,” the Washington Post quoted Kim Doggett.
Concerned about the opossum's health, especially since chocolate is known to be toxic to many animals, Doggett contacted Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, a local organisation dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife. She claimed that the opossum appeared distressed, panting heavily and showing signs of discomfort.

The Nebraska Wildlife Rehab shared the incident on Facebook and captioned it: "Sometimes a sweet tooth just can’t wait until Valentine’s Day. With some time in rehab (and a diet reset), this choco-holic should be stabilized enough to return to the wild but until then, she is definitely a little cranky about our strict “zero chocolate" policy! Same, opossum…. same."
