In a horrifying incident in the UK, a double-decker bus collided with a low railway bridge in Eccles, Salford, resulting in the entire roof being torn off and leaving 15 people injured, including three seriously. One passenger is reported to be in critical condition.

The crash occurred around 3:00 PM BST (7:30 PM IST) on Monday at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the details and have launched a full investigation into the incident.

Video footage from a nearby doorbell camera shows the double-decker bus attempting to drive under a low-clearance bridge. As it hits the structure, the roof is cleanly sheared off, and terrified passengers can be heard screaming inside. Some are seen ducking as debris crashes around them.

Local resident Szymon Hundz told the BBC that his girlfriend saw the crash unfold and witnessed people falling from the top floor of the bus. “It was a really loud explosion sound. We rushed down with chairs, water, and anything we could find. Neighbours also pitched in while paramedics weren’t there yet,” he said.

Casualties And Emergency Response

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed that 15 people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospitals. Three people have suffered serious injuries, and one remains in critical condition. Emergency services acted promptly, sealing the area and transporting the wounded.

Greater Manchester’s Transport Commissioner, Vernon Everitt, has assured the public of a thorough investigation. “Our absolute focus has been on supporting emergency services. An immediate and urgent investigation into the circumstances is underway,” he said.

Initial reports suggest that the bus attempted to go under a bridge not suitable for tall vehicles. Authorities are investigating whether driver error or a lapse in route planning was to blame. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over infrastructure warnings and the safety of double-decker buses on public roads.
