US President Donald Trump's ambitious plan to reconstruct post-war Gaza is reportedly facing a significant financial crisis, with only a fraction of the $17 billion pledged actually materialising.
The funding has stalled the work of the US-backed Board of Peace, which was established to oversee reconstruction and governance efforts in the war-torn enclave. It has also hindered the deployment of the proposed National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a technocratic body intended to take over governance from Hamas, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
'No Money Currently Available': Official
Despite earlier commitment from multiple countries, only the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Morocco and the United States have contributed so far, with the total inflows falling under $1 billion, the report added.
A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has further disrupted funding flows, exacerbating an already strained situation.
A Palestinian official said the US-backed Board of Peace has informed involved factions, including Hamas, that the proposed National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) cannot currently enter the territory due to a lack of funding.
"No money is currently available," Bard envoy Nickolay Mladenov was quoted as saying.
The NCAG, led by Palestinian technocrat Ali Shaath, was expected to assume control of Gaza's ministries and security apparatus after the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. However, the committee remains in Cairo, with its deployment stalled amid funding and security concerns.

The financial bottleneck highlights broader challenges that Trump's peace plan is facing, including stalled negotiations over Hamas' disarmament and Israel's military presence. With reconstruction estimated to cost around $70 billion, the funding crunch threatens to derail Gaza's recovery plans and risks prolonging instability across the region.
