Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has once again warned Iran of possible military action, even as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.

“I hope we don’t have to do the war, but we may have to give them another big hit… I’m not sure yet. You’ll know very soon," Trump said while speaking about the ongoing standoff with Iran.

The US president said Tehran had been given “a limited period of time" to agree to a deal, stressing that the United States “can’t let them have a nuclear weapon."

“There’s no question in my mind that they’d use it, there’s no question and I deal with these people. They’re extremely radicalised," he added.

US Sets Timeline For War

In addition to this, Barak Ravid, a reporter for Axios, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump indicated renewed military strikes on Iran could take place within the next few days and that Tehran would be given a “limited period of time” to reach a deal.

“Trump on Iran strike timeline: ‘2-3 days, maybe Friday or Saturday, early next week. A limited period of time’,” Ravid wrote on X.

Trump on Sunday said that “the clock is ticking” for Iran to accept a peace deal with the United States, warning that “there won't be anything left of them” if Tehran’s leadership does not “get moving, FAST”.

Gulf States' Calls Halted New Iran Strike At Last Minute: Trump

Trump revealed that the United States came within sixty minutes of launching a fresh military strike on Iran before Gulf states urged Washington to give diplomacy more time. The operation, which had naval warships armed and ready, was temporarily halted following a potential diplomatic breakthrough.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said several Gulf allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, contacted his administration after hearing that the US was ready to move ahead with the attack.

“I was an hour away. We were all set to go… it would have been happening right now," he said.

The latest developments come amid stalled diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran to resolve months of hostilities that began after US and Israeli strikes in late February. Talks have repeatedly failed over disagreements surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions relief.

Trump further claimed that he was just an hour away from ordering US forces to launch strikes on Iran. “We were all set to go… it would have been happening right now," he said.

Earlier, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Gulf leaders had urged him “to hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

However, Trump added that he had instructed the US military to remain “prepared to go forward with a full, large-scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached".

Responding sharply to Trump’s remarks, Iran’s military warned it would “open new fronts" against the United States if attacks resume.
