United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared that Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been “set back decades” following recent US military strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed that Tehran “won’t be building bombs for a long time,” and that the attacks caused “total obliteration” of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
This announcement comes just a day after Trump said he had brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, two longtime adversaries, and that the truce was “going very well.” Describing the success of the US offensive, Trump invoked a World War II comparison, saying, “I don’t want to use an example of Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but that was essentially the same thing. That ended that war.”
Warning To Iran: ‘Do Not Enrich Again’
Trump was unequivocal in his warning to Iran, stating that any attempts to rebuild or enrich uranium would invite further consequences. “Iran will not enrich, the last thing they want to do is enrich,” he said. He also dismissed media reports that Iran had removed 400 kilograms of uranium from its facilities before the strike, labelling them as “fake news.”
Despite Trump’s strong assertions, a leaked US intelligence report has cast doubt on the effectiveness of the strikes, suggesting that the damage may have only set Iran’s nuclear programme back by “a few months, tops.” When questioned about the assessment, Trump said the agencies “really don’t know,” and insisted the outcome was a “tremendous hit.”
‘Help Us On Russia, Not Iran’
Supporting Trump’s claim, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth described the mission as “flawless,” calling the intelligence report “preliminary” and “politically motivated.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, dismissing the report as part of a “game these people play.”

Trump revealed that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the situation. According to Trump, Putin expressed a willingness to help on the Iran issue, to which Trump responded, “Help us on Russia, not on Iran.” Trump characterised the Israel-Iran conflict in almost trivial terms, comparing it to “two kids in a school yard.”
