The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced the first phase of its Blue Visa system, granting eligible foreigners a 10-year residency permit. Alongside this initiative, the UAE has expanded its visa-on-arrival program for Indian nationals, now including those holding valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from six additional countries.

Starting February 13, 2025, Indian passport holders with valid documentation from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are eligible for a visa on arrival at all UAE entry points. Previously, this privilege was only available to individuals with visas or residency permits from the United States, European Union (EU) member states, and the United Kingdom (UK).

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) confirmed that Indian travellers meeting the new criteria can obtain their visa upon arrival without prior application. This move is expected to boost tourism and strengthen business ties between the UAE and India.

Eligibility Criteria and Visa Regulations

To qualify for the visa-on-arrival facility, Indian travellers must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a passport valid for at least six months at the time of entry.

  • Possess a valid tourist visa, residence permit, or Green Card from any of the eligible countries.

  • Pay the applicable visa fees in accordance with UAE regulations.

Indian nationals who qualify under this scheme will receive a 14-day entry visa, which can be extended for a fee, as per guidelines from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).

For those planning to utilise this facility, it is essential that both their passport and the applicable tourist or residency visa remain valid for at least six months upon arrival. Travellers can also apply for a pre-approved entry permit before their trip if needed.

UAE’s Visa-On-Arrival System for Other Nationalities

The UAE currently offers 30-day and 90-day visas on arrival to nationals of more than 80 countries. Most of these visas do not require prior arrangement and are stamped upon arrival by immigration authorities.

Additionally, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens enjoy visa-free entry into the UAE. They can enter the country by simply presenting their passport or national ID at immigration checkpoints.

With the introduction of the Blue Visa system and the expanded visa-on-arrival policy, the UAE continues to position itself as a global hub for tourism, business, and long-term residency opportunities.
