UAE Fire tragedy: An Indian woman of local origin was killed when a blaze erupted in her apartment in Sharjah's Al Majaz area late Thursday night, according to local reports. In a separate incident, a woman from Kerala and her toddler daughter were killed in their apartment in Sharjah's Al Nahda area earlier this week. The 46-year-old Indian woman was said to have been conducting a special ritual in her apartment when the fire occurred, Gulf News reported. The blaze happened at around 10:45 PM (local time) on Thursday evening in a residential complex in Sharjah's Al Majaz 2 area.

A shop owner in the same building saw fire emanating from an eighth-floor flat in the 11-storey building and raised the alarm at once. Sharjah Police, Civil Defence units, and National Ambulance teams moved to the area quickly and were able to limit the fire to one apartment. Despite all efforts, the woman could not be saved. Her body was then shifted to the forensic lab for an autopsy. Officials assured that the fire had not spread to any other units in the building, each of whose floors has 12 apartments. Police have opened an investigation to find the cause of the fire.
