The voting for the general election in the UK will take place on Thursday, which will decide the fate of the 20-month-old Rishi Suak government. The polling will happen between 7 am to 10 pm. Counting will begin as soon as the election ends, and the results will be out by 5 am on Friday. All eyes will be on the exit polls though.

Pre-election opinion polls have indicated that the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, is likely to secure a clear majority. If this happens, the Conservative Party, which has been in power for the past 14 years, will lose its reign. Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has travelled thousands of miles in recent weeks.

Rishi Sunak, the Indian-origin Prime Minister who took office in October 2022, has emphasised that the outcome of this election is not a foregone conclusion. He said, "These have been some tough times, but undoubtedly things are now in a better position than before." The Labour Party is also warning against taking the election lightly and urging its supporters not to be complacent.

For the 650-member Parliament, voters will also decide the future of PM Sunak and four former Conservative Prime Ministers. In the last 2019 election, 15 MPs of Indian origin won, and many of them are contesting again this time. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has urged people during the six-week election campaign to give his centre-left party a chance and vote for change.

Psephologists say this will not be an easy task for Rishi Sunak this time. There is some resentment towards Sunak, with people accusing him of not fulfilling all his promises. However, Sunak disagrees with this view.
