According to the Guardian, the chaos was linked to children being taken into care by government agents in Luxor Street in the Harehills area. The eyewitnesses said that some people in the community responded by setting fires and "throwing stones".
In the video that went viral on social media, the crowd was seen attacking the police vehicle, using a pram, rocks, and bicycles to smash its windows before flipping it onto its side. The West Yorkshire Police said that no injuries have been reported so far, however, a large number of public officers have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Speaking to The Telegraph, a local said that the unrest was sparked by an incident involving a baby who was incidentally injured by a sibling sometime earlier. After taking the child to the hospital for a check-up, the parents were shocked when the hospital informed social services about the situation. Social workers then took the four kids away from their homes without giving any explanation.

“They could not believe it when the hospital called social services. After all this time, the social workers then took the four children into care. They did not give the family a reason. They just said it was for the best,” the local told the publication.
