A shocking murder trial in Liverpool has revealed the terrifying last moments of 32-year-old Rebekah Campbell, who was stabbed 18 times by her boyfriend in her flat in Huyton, Merseyside, earlier this year. As she was attacked, Rebekah screamed, "I've been stabbed," before she fell to the ground outside her tower of flats. In a chilling conversation with the arriving police officer, she had allegedly asked, "Am I gonna die?"
Michael Ormandy, aged 34, is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court charged with the murder of Rebekah. The attack was "sustained and violent," prosecutors said. Prosecuting counsel David McLachlan KC informed jurors that Rebekah had a total of 27 incised wounds, nine slash wounds and 18 stab wounds. She had tried defending herself, as evidenced by wounds on her arms. Rescue teams attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead early on after the attack.
Incident Unfolded During Phone Call
Court documents revealed that Rebekah had been on a phone call with a friend, Faye Henderson, when the attack began. She shouted, “Go away, get out Mick,” before a loud bang and the sound of puppies barking were heard in the background. alarmed, Henderson dialled 999. Rebekah had informed her neighbours, "My fella stabbed me," as she fled out into the road, conveying the fear and chaos of the moment.
Rebekah and Ormandy had been in a relationship for about four months, though it was said to be under tension. Friends testified that Rebekah was thinking of ending it. There were previous altercations reported, including a night on April 12 when Rebekah threw a shoe at Ormandy and slapped him, leading to a further altercation. Ormandy is said to have verbally attacked Rebekah throughout their relationship, taunting her with insults and threatening her in public.
Arrest And Defence Assertions
In his arrest, Ormandy informed police, "This wouldn't have occurred if you did your job last week." Ormandy denies murder, alleging he acted in self-defence, claiming Rebekah attacked him with a knife and stayed on top of him as they struggled. The trial proceeds, with jurors set to balance the evidence of what has been termed a brutal and lethal attack.
