Following Donald Trump's victory, several high-profile Hollywood stars have been openly contemplating leaving the United States. With concerns over the direction of the country under his leadership, many celebrities are expressing uncertainty about their future in the US.
The Republican nominee secured the presidency with a decisive 295 Electoral College votes to Kamala Harris' 226. In the wake of the election outcome, several celebrities have expressed their intentions to leave the United States, citing their dissatisfaction with the results. Here are some of the high-profile stars considering a move abroad.
America Ferrera
America Ferrera is reportedly ready to pack her bags after Donald Trump's victory. The 40-year-old actress is said to be considering a move to the UK with her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, and their two young children, son Sebastian, 6, and daughter Lucia, 4, in search of a fresh start following the election outcome.
Billie Joe
Billie Joe Armstrong announced he was ‘renouncing’ his US citizenship, expressing frustration with the country by stating there was ‘too much stupidity’ for him to return.
Sharon Stone
In July, Sharon Stone mentioned to the Daily Mail that she was considering buying a house in Italy, describing it as a wise decision. She expressed concern over seeing a political candidate run on a platform of hate and oppression for the first time in her life.
Cher
Singer and actress Cher, a vocal critic of Trump, revealed that his leadership had a significant impact on her health. In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, she said that if Trump were to return to power, she would leave the country, citing the stress he caused her during his previous term.
Stephen Colbert
In an interview with Stephen Colbert, Streisand said she wouldn’t be able to stay in the US if Trump became president and would likely move to England.
Earlier in 2016, celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Miley Cyrus, Amy Schumer, and George Lopez pledged to leave the US if Trump won the presidency however, none ultimately followed through on their promises.
During Trump’s first campaign, Miley Cyrus stated on Instagram that she would leave the US if he became president, saying, "I don't say things I don't mean!" However, after his win, she shared an emotional video on X, accepting Trump as president and urging him to ‘treat people with love’.
