A California female teacher was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office. According to multiple media reports, the accused teacher, Dulce Flores, was associated with Riverbank High School since 2016 as a Spanish educator. The report alleged she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student in 2023.
According to a post on the Riverbank Police Services' Facebook page, "The investigation was initiated after a school official received information about the relationship from an external source. Investigators have since been working to confirm the details of the case before proceeding with an arrest."
Flores will be suspended till investigation
As per the statement from the Riverbank Unified School District, Flores will take a leave of absence while the investigation is ongoing. The district will assist law enforcement as needed and will keep parents and students in Flores' classes informed to ensure minimal disruption to their education for the rest of the school year.
Superintendent Constantino Aguilar expressed in the statement, "It's deeply unfortunate for our district to encounter a situation like this. As we continue collaborating with law enforcement, we will also explore any available options to address this matter independently."
Authorities praises school
The district's release states that RUSD follows strict hiring practices and “expects nothing less than the highest standards of quality and professionalism from its staff.” The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Riverbank Unified School District for its “prompt reporting” and cooperation, which “assisted investigators in uncovering the details of this sensitive case.”
Flores marks the second Riverbank High teacher in two years to be arrested for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student. In December 2023, Riverbank High staff notified the Sheriff’s Office about an alleged relationship involving Logan Nabors, a former Riverbank High girls' basketball coach. The relationship with a 16-year-old student reportedly occurred between 2017 and 2018, while Nabors, then 23, was involved.
