US-Iran War: US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that the Iranians were engaging in "constructive" talks with the US, adding that he has postponed threatened strikes on Iranian power plants after having "productive" conversations, infusing a positive wave into global markets, including the Indian stock market. However, the Iranian regime debunked Trump's negotiation talks claim, saying he is lying to manipulate the market.

Trump said because his envoys, son-in-law Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, had "very good" talks over the weekend with unnamed "respected" Iranian officials on ending hostilities.

While markets cheered the claim, Iranian officials dismissed it as a ploy to buy time for a conflict that is causing economic pain around the globe.

Some experts said there might be a 'shadow negotiation' that was underway to find a middle path to end the US-Israel war against Iran, which has entered its 25th day, creating global havoc in the energy market.

What Is 'Shadow Negotiation'?

A 'shadow negotiation' is also known as hidden or backchannel talks, in which the two parties may not engage directly. Still, their unofficial negotiators or diplomatic proxies hold communication to make the ground and a conducive atmosphere to break the stalemate. In the current scenario, Iran does not want to give any sign to its soldiers that Tehran has taken a soft stance against the US-Israel aggression, as the hostility in the Gulf region may go in favour of Iran. Iran has not engaged in direct public dialogue, but may be secretly sending messages and terms through third countries (Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan). These nations are allies of the US, and they share good bound with Tehran as well. Also, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing the urgent need for collective efforts for de-escalation in West Asia. The development is also seen as a part of the shadow negotiation.

Can 'Shadow Negotiation' Produce A Breakthrough?

Usually, such initiatives work. As of now, Trump has failed to explain the real objectives of the ongoing war; the US is likely attempting to find an exit route. Trump is facing internal pressure as a section of America is saying the US is fighting Israel's war. The chronology of the events in the last few days suggests that Trump is desperate to find a dignified exit by achieving a diplomatic solution. First, Trump gave a 48-hour ultimatum, then took a soft move, giving a 5-day breather. In a social media message timed before markets opened, Trump said he was putting off for five days plans he announced over the weekend to bomb Iran's power plants unless Tehran opened the Strait of Hormuz by Monday evening. And again, he claimed that productive talks were held with Iranian leaders, which was dismissed by Tehran. Inconsistent Trump made one thing clear: he is ready to reach a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict.
