The United States and Israel have talked about sending special forces into Iran to secure its nuclear stockpile amid escalating tensions. The conflict entered its ninth day on Sunday with fresh strikes, drone attacks and warnings from each of the country's leaders.

Amid this, there are reports that the US and Israel have held discussions regarding the potential deployment of special forces into Tehran. According to a report by Axios, which cited four sources, the goal would be to secure Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium. This development comes amid US President Donald Trump's warning that attacks on Iran will intensify over this weekend.

According to the report, such an operation would be considered at a later stage of the ongoing war. This move highlights the focus on Iranian nuclear assets and one of Trump's objectives, which is to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon ever. "At some point maybe we will. That would be a great thing," Trump said when questioned about securing Iran’s nuclear material.

He added, "Right now we're just decimating them, but we haven't gone after it. We wouldn't do it now. May be we will do it later."

What Is US' Plan?

A report by New York Times further suggests that the plan would likely involve elite commando units. They would be tasked with locating and securing nuclear material stored at key facilities. According to officials, Trump administration would either consider removing the entire material from Iran or deploying nuclear specialists to dilute the uranium at the site, so that it wouldn't be useful for making weapons.

The plan aims to destroy the regime's 450 kilograms of uranium, enriched to 60 per cent, and capable of becoming weapons-grade within weeks. Recent intelligence assessments suggest that Iran could still be to able retrieve its main stockpile of enriched uranium despite setback. According to US intelligence agencies, the material is believed to be buried beneath the nuclear complex at the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center. The facility was heavily damaged along with the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant and Natanz Nuclear Facility during US strikes last year.

Trump on escalating tensions

Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump asserted that Washington has successfully neutralised the entire Iranian leadership. Aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that he continues to maintain positive outlook on the week-long hostilities. "We're winning the war by a lot. We've decimated their whole evil empire. It'll continue, I'm sure, for a little while. The war itself is going unbelievably It's as good as it can be," Trump said.
