US Mass Shooting: A 32-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh was among the four people killed in firing at a grocery store in Arkansas in the United States. The victim was identified as Dasari Gopikrishna, a native of Bapatla district who had gone to the US only eight months ago. The man was working at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, when a gunman opened fire on June 21. 

Gopikrishna was at the billing counter when the incident took place and sustained injuries. He succumbed at the hospital the next day. After receiving the news of his death, his family in Yajali, Karlapalem mandal, Bapatla district, was shattered. He is survived by a wife and a son.

At least four people died and nine others sustained injuries when the gunman opened fire inside the store and at the parking lot. Meanwhile,   CCTV footage of the attacker entering the shop and starting a fire on the man behind the counter has surfaced.  According to news agency IANS, the gunman jumped over the counter and escaped by lifting something from the shelf as the victim collapsed on the ground.

The deceased in the shooting incident have been identified as 62-year-old Shirley Taylor, 23-year-old Callie Weems, 50-year-old Roy Sturgis, and 81-year-old Ellen Shrum. All the victims were civilians. The wounded, ranging in age from 20 to 65, include four people still hospitalized, one of whom is in critical condition. Two police officers also sustained injuries in the incident involving Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, who has since been released from the hospital, and Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, whose injuries were minor.

This is the latest incident in a series of mass shootings at grocery stores in the United States (US). In 2022, a white supremacist reportedly killed 10 Black people in a Buffalo supermarket. This attack came after a similar incident took place in Boulder, Colorado, in 2021, when 10 people were fatally shot in a supermarket.
