Washington DC Plane Crash: An American Airlines plane crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night following a midair collision with a helicopter. The incident occurred around 9 PM local time when a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, operating as Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a US Blackhawk (H-60) military helicopter during its approach to Runway 33. Chilling videos shared on social media show the moment of impact, with the regional jet striking the helicopter while attempting to land at the airport. The PSA Airlines flight was carrying 64 passengers and crew members at the time.

Emergency teams, including fireboats, swiftly responded to the scene in Arlington to assist with rescue operations. Multiple agencies were involved, working together to save as many lives as possible. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) suspended all flight operations at Reagan National Airport, halting takeoffs and landings. However, the terminal remained open for passengers. The airport was temporarily closed until 11 PM, with the ground stop lasting until 10:30 PM.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation, with the FAA also involved. American Airlines issued a statement acknowledging the incident and pledged to provide further updates as more details emerged.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the situation. She stated in an interview on FOX News, “There are many agencies working on this response, both federal and local law enforcement,” and urged the public to remain calm and follow law enforcement guidance.

As of now, there are no confirmed details regarding injuries or fatalities from the crash.
