In a bid to secure the top post in the United States, former President Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley in South Carolina's Republican contest on Saturday, Reuters reported. With the fresh victory, Trump has moved closer to a third consecutive presidential nomination.
The poll surveys predicted Trump's almost-clear victory in the Southern state even as he faces a plethora of criminal cases. Also winning on the strong turf of Haley, where she won two terms as governor, becomes significant for Trump.

It was anticipated that Trump's legal problems might have dampened his support but this victory came as a major breather for him, which portrays him as a strong contender in November's election.
"I have never seen the Republican party so unified as it is right now," Trump told supporters in Columbia, the state capital, just minutes after the polls closed at 7 p.m.
Notably, Trump has seamlessly overcome all the barriers coming his way to becoming a Republican party candidate. Nikki Haley was the last remaining challenger as Trump dominated all five contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and now Haley's home state.
A defiant Haley, who served as U.N. ambassador under Trump, said once again on Saturday that she will campaign through at least "Super Tuesday" on March 5, when Republicans in 15 states and one U.S. territory will cast ballots."We need to beat Joe Biden in November," she told supporters in Charleston, South Carolina, after Saturday's election was called in Trump's favor. "I don't believe Donald Trump can beat Joe Biden."
