A mathematics teacher working at a Missouri school has been arrested by the police on the charges of having sexual intercourse with one of her students, a 16-year-old minor, while she made his other classmates act as 'lookouts.'

The Missouri Police has booked Hailey Clifton-Carmack, who taught mathematics at a High School in Pulaski County, on the charges of statutory rape, endangering the welfare of a child, child molestation and sexual contact with a child, reported Independent.

The police were first alerted by the student, who was allegedly involved in a sexual relationship. The victim showed Police the scratch marks on his back which he said, 'came from interactions with Ms Clifton-Carmack.'

The student reported that the teacher was 'too close' with the students. Court documents reveal that the Superintendent of Laquey Schools and the high school's principal were aware of the teacher's conduct before it was reported. In December, officials secured a search warrant to examine the teacher's phone. The officer executing the warrant noted that Ms Clifton-Carmack willingly surrendered her phone without resistance, displaying unusual behaviour for someone facing such accusations.

The woman initially denied illicit relationships with students. However, upon officials obtaining a warrant to access her device, she declined to provide the password as advised by her attorney. Later, after breaching the electronic security, officials discovered a conversation between Ms Clifton-Carmack and the student discussing their relationship. Before she visited Texas, the student's father confirmed the sexual relationship with a witness, as per court documents. He mentioned that the teacher made other students act as "lookouts" during school for their activities.

He reportedly informed a witness about an impending action, stating, "They are going to do it behind my back, so I may as well let it happen." Allegedly, he also said that "he'd lie" on behalf of his son. The father was arrested on January 3 and entered a not-guilty plea for a first-degree child endangerment charge during the arraignment on January 8. The school district, in response, stated, "The employee has not been in the district since December 8, 2023, and we do not anticipate her return."
