An Air India flight on its way to Bali from Delhi was advised to take a U-turn after reports of volcanic eruptions near the airport in Bali, where the flight was supposed to land. The flight AI2145 landed back in Delhi safely after the alarm was raised. 

According to the statement issued by the airline, all the passengers have been disembarked as the plane landed safely in the national capital. 

Passengers have been provided with accommodation in a hotel, and a full refund or complimentary rescheduling has been offered to them, the statement further said. "Air India flight AI2145 on June 18 from Delhi to Bali was advised to air return to Delhi due to reports of volcanic eruption near destination airport Bali, in the interest of safety," it said.

The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara province has caused significant disruptions to air travel. Several flights to and from Bali were cancelled or delayed after the airport in Maumere was closed due to the volcanic activity.

As per the information available on the website of Bali International Airport, Several international flights from India, Singapore and Australia to Bali were cancelled due to the eruption.

Volcano Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Erupted Twice 

A volcano named Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, situated in East Nusa Tenggara province, erupted on Tuesday, spewing ash 11 km (6.84 miles) high. The country’s volcanology agency issued an alert as the eruption was severe and fell into the category of most dangerous. Indonesia is situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is an area of high seismic activity on top of multiple tectonic plates. 

According to the statement of the agency, the volcano erupted again on Wednesday, throwing an ash cloud up to 1 km high.
