Saketh Sreenivasaiah Death: A 22-year-old Indian student enrolled in a master’s degree at the University of California was found dead after he disappeared on February 9. Deceased Saketh Sreenivasaiah’s body was pulled from Lake Anza in California on Saturday afternoon (local time).
As per a LinkedIn post by Sreenivasaiah’s roommate, Baneet Singh, he died by suicide. Weeks before his disappearance, Sreenivasaiah had started eating less, Singh said.
An alumnus of IIT Madras, 22-year-old Saketh Sreenivasaiah was enrolled in a Master’s programme at the University of California, pursuing his Master of Science in Product Development Programme, as per his LinkedIn profile.

Saketh Was Surviving On Chips And Cookies: Roommate
Saketh Sreenivasaiah’s roommate said that 2 weeks before his death, the student had started eating less and had become more withdrawn. “There were no signs of anything until the last 2 weeks, when he started eating less and engaging less, only surviving on chips and cookies,” Singh said in his LinkedIn post. Singh further said that on January 21, Sreenivasaiah had invited him to Lake Anza, but he declined the offer, saying that he was feeling lazy. “Little did I know that would be the same place he’d take his life,” he wrote.
‘Saketh Went To Class In Bathrobe’
Singh said he had conersation with Sreenivasaiah the last time, when he returned from class in a bathrobe. When Singh asked him about why he would wear a bathrobe to class, Sreensivasaiah replied that he had stopped caring about anything. “I have stopped caring man. I'm cold and don’t care what anyone thinks of me. I don’t care about anything,” Singh quoted Sreenivasaiah in his LinkedIn post. Singh said that while he laughed at him that time, he now realises that it was an indication of his mental health.

‘Shocked To The Core’: Saketh’s Roommate
“My Berkeley roommate, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, has been found dead by suicide in Lake Anza near the Berkeley hills, according to police… the entire community has been shocked to the core,” Baneet Singh said. He further said that he was working with authorities to fly Sreenivasaiah’s family from India to the US on an emergency visa.
