US President Donald Trump announced a pause in the imposition of higher tariffs on several countries, citing concerns over how global markets and governments were reacting to his aggressive trade stance. Trump, known for his unfiltered rhetoric, explained the decision by saying people were “getting a little bit yippy.”

Speaking to supporters, Trump remarked, “Well, I thought that people were jumping a little bit out of line. They were getting yippy, you know, they were getting a little bit yippy, a little bit afraid—unlike these champions—because we have a big job to do." Trump emphasised that his bold trade moves were necessary and claimed that no previous administration had the courage to take similar action.

“No other president would have done what I did. No other president. And it had to be done,” he said, reinforcing his belief that aggressive trade policies were vital to protecting American interests.

Tariff Hike on China Announced, Then Paused

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump shocked markets by declaring a sharp increase in tariffs on Chinese goods, raising the rate to 125 per cent effective immediately. He justified the move by accusing China of showing a "lack of respect" to global markets and continuing what he described as exploitative trade practices.

“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realise that the days of ripping off the USA and other Countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable,” Trump wrote in an official statement.

However, within hours, he softened the blow by announcing a 90-day pause on those hikes. During this period, the tariff on many affected goods would be reduced to 10 per cent, signaling a partial retreat under mounting international pressure.

White House Message: 'Do Not Retaliate'

The White House followed Trump’s announcement with a direct message to other nations: “DO NOT RETALIATE AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED.” This message was reportedly communicated to more than 75 countries that had engaged with US trade officials in recent days.
