Amid the deportation bid by the Trump Administration, a video shared by the White House on its official X account has triggered a wave of condemnation. The users on the microblogging site criticised the Trump administration for dehumanising the immigrants.
The concerned video shows immigrants walking in line while being processed for deportation. The immigrants were being escorted by border patrol agents. The video was to the 1983 pop hit "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)" by the UK group Bananarama.
The post was also captioned chorus, "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye." The video seemingly has a celebratory tone while the immigrants's vulnerability is ignored, prompting harsh criticism.

One of the users reacted by commenting, "This is ghoulish behavior. Sociopathic. Shame on you." The series of such remarks flooded the comment section of the post.

Another user wrote, "It would be great if you guys stopped with the dehumanizing posts! It’s disgusting." Reacting harshly, a user termed it "state-sponsored dehumanisation." He added, "Weaponizing suffering. Mocking lives torn apart. Celebrating cruelty like it’s a game show. This is how fascism talks when it thinks no one can stop it. We see you. And we will stop you."
However, the White House issued a statement defending the video, hailing a sharp decline in illegal immigrants at the southern border.
The White House said, "In March, the US Border Patrol encountered just 7,181 illegal immigrants at the southern border, a 95% decrease from 2024 and a 97% decrease from 2022."
With due consideration, this is not the first time the Trump administration has suffered a backlash over such use of pop music. Last month, similar video met with a controversy that featured Semisonic’s 1998 hit "Closing Time."
