An armed man, identified as Austin Tucker Martin, was shot and killed on Sunday after attempting to breach the guarded grounds of President Donald Trump's Palm Beach, Florida, resort, Mar-a-Lago.
Around 1:30 AM on Sunday, the suspect, who is 21 years old, drove into the resort. Trump and First Lady Melania were at the White House at the time of the incident.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X: "In the middle of the night while most Americans were asleep, the United States Secret Service acted quickly and decisively to neutralise a crazy person, armed with a gun and a gas canister, who intruded on President Trump's home. Federal law enforcement is working 24/7 to keep our country safe and protect all Americans. It's shameful and reckless that Democrats have chosen to shut down their Department."
Who is Austin Tucker Martin?
Martin, a US citizen from North Carolina, is accused of attempting to enter President Donald Trump's resort while brandishing a shotgun and a petrol can. Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, said Martin's family had reported him missing a few days prior.
According to sources, Martin got the shotgun while travelling south from North Carolina. Two Secret Service agents and a sheriff's deputy confronted Martin, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. The officers fired and eliminated the threat after he disregarded orders to drop his weapons, set down the gas canister and raised the shotgun into a firing position.

Trump’s Past Threats
Trump has previously been threatened with death. On July 13, 2024, he was hurt during an attempt on his life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A man with a rifle was apprehended later on September 15, 2024, after he had been waiting outside of Trump's West Palm Beach golf course while the president was playing. Earlier this month, he received a life sentence.
