US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order aimed at combatting antisemitism on college campuses, calling on institutions of higher education to "monitor for and report activities by alien students and staff" related to antisemitism. The order argues that Jewish students have faced discrimination, intimidation, and physical threats, necessitating immediate action.
A fact sheet released by the White House outlines the executive action’s enforcement measures, including the potential deportation of students on visas and other resident aliens who express "pro-Hamas" or "pro-jihadist" views. The administration asserts that these steps are essential to addressing antisemitism and ensuring the safety of Jewish students nationwide.
The order directs the Department of Justice to "quell pro-Hamas vandalism and intimidation" and to investigate and penalise instances of "anti-Jewish racism" in what it describes as leftist, anti-American universities. The US Education Department has responded by launching investigations into five universities accused of harbouring antisemitic environments.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the department’s investigations are a direct response to Trump's executive order. The probes aim to address allegations of "widespread antisemitic harassment" reported on these campuses.
These actions follow what the administration describes as an "explosion of antisemitism" on US campuses in the wake of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023.
President Trump has pledged that the federal government will protect the civil rights of Jewish Americans, promising to be their strongest advocate in the White House. He has also vowed to enforce laws strictly, maintain public order, and prosecute antisemitic crimes, directing the Attorney General to take firm action against threats, arson, vandalism, and violence targeting Jewish communities.
