A US military plane has reportedly began deporting Indian migrants from the several parts of the United States. A total of 205 Indian nationals have been deported on a US military aircraft, reported NDTV, citing sources. The step is widely seen as the development towards Trump's vision of illegal migrant free America. Trump, in his election campaign speeches emphasised that he would deport 11 million undocumented migrants in the United States.

The military aircraft, C-17, has departed for India and would reach there after at least 24 hours, an US official was quoted as saying by the news agency Reuters on the condition of anonymity. The US government has pledged to deport over 5,000 migrants from areas like El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California.

US president had talked about carrying out the largest deportation in the entire history of the US. A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report suggests that 18,000 undocumented Indians are residing in US among a total of 1.5 million people facing deportation. However, the authorities have not provided details regarding the exact number of Indians being deported in the military plane.

The action from US comes ahead of much-hyped meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Trump expectedly on February 12. Earlier last month, Indian foreign affairs minister S Jaishankar clarified that India is willing to accept its citizens if their identity is confirmed. However, he said that the exact number of illegal immigrants living in US is not clear yet, adding that India is clear on its stance of accepting its citizens.
