Amid escalating tensions with Iran, the United States has assembled the greatest amount of air power in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the massive air fleet includes cutting-edge F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor jet fighters, along with support aircraft.

Adding to the buildup, a second aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, loaded with attack and electronic-warfare planes, is also en route to the region, while command-and-control aircraft, crucial for large air campaigns, are inbound. While the United States is ready to attack Iran anytime now, President Donald Trump has yet to make the final decision.

Iran Protests

The tensions began after widespread protests erupted in Iran over economic concerns and inflation. These protests quickly turned into anti-government unrest, prompting the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-led regime to launch a massive crackdown on protesters. In response to the crackdown against protesters, United States President Donald Trump warned of military intervention.

While internal tensions persist, the focus has now shifted to Iran's nuclear stockpile, with the US trying to halt the country's nuclear program.

US Massive Buildup In Middle East Since 2003 Invasion Of Iraq

The United States has assembled the greatest amount of air power in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The Wall Street Journal report, citing flight-tracking data and a US Official states that the US has steadily moved cutting-edge F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor jet fighters towards the Middle East over the past few days.

Adding to the buildup, a second aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, loaded with attack and electronic-warfare planes, has been dispatched to join the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is already operating within range of the Iranian coast. Meanwhile, the United States has deployed inbound command-and-control aircraft, crucial for large air campaigns, and critical missile defences to the region.

US To Strike Iran Soon?

According to a report by CNN, the United States is considering a strike on Iran as early as this weekend, but President Donald Trump has yet to make the final decision. If he decides, the aim of these attacks remains a subject of intense debate. The focus would either be to halt Iran's already-battered nuclear programme and wipe out its missile force or try to topple the regime as well, NDTV reported.
