The Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson on Saturday shared a video footage of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, which the former claims was captured hours before the October 7 attack. The purported video depicts Sanwar passing through a tunnel with his family in Gaza. Notably, the Hamas chief was killed in an encounter with Israeli soldiers in Rafah on Thursday.

His remains were later transported to Israel, where they were positively identified through DNA samples and dental records collected during his time in prison.

Divulging the details of the video, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagar said, “The IDF recently confirmed that Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas and the face of evil behind the October 7 massacre was killed in Rafah. Tonight we are declassifying the footage of Sinwar from just a few hours before the October 7 massacre, as well as his movement inside Gaza as he fled over the past year. Yahya Sinwar spent years planning the October 7 attack. Each step was planned to maximise the harm to the Israelis and Gazan civilians and to minimise the harm to himself and other terrorists.”

The clip, lasting over three minutes, shows a man believed to be Sinwar walking back and forth in an underground tunnel alongside family members, including children, as they carry bags of supplies to a bunker that was later discovered by the IDF.

On Friday, the Palestinian militant group Hamas confirmed that its leader, Yahya Sinwar, had been killed by the Israeli military in Gaza, just one day after Israel announced his death. In a recorded video statement, Khalil al-Hayya, a Hamas official based in Qatar, expressed, “We mourn the great leader, the martyred brother, Yahya Sinwar, Abu Ibrahim.”

Sinwar was believed to be the one who orchestrated the October 7 attack, where Hamas fired over 5,000 missiles into Israeli territory in a surprise attack. Moreover, militants rampaged across Israeli cities and abducted many civilians.
