Former Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in an Israeli operation in southern Gaza last week, was reportedly seen in CCTV footage moving inside a tunnel with his wife and children hours before the deadly October 7 attack on Israel. In the video released by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), Sinwar can be seen carrying pillows, mattresses, and bags inside the tunnel in Khan Younis.

Sinwar’s wife was seen carrying a black bag, which Israel claims to be a Hermes Birkin bag worth USD 32,000. Israel’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle said, “Sinwar’s wife caught in this photo sneaking to the tunnels the night before October 7th - get this - clutching a $32,000 Hermes Birkin bag! While Gazans endured hardship under Hamas, Sinwar and his family were shamelessly living in luxury, indulging while sending others to die.”

Israel has released a screengrab from a video showing the wife of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar holding a bag that has now gained attention. The image, albeit hazy, shows that the bag may resemble the luxurious Hermes Birkin 40 Black Togo Gold Hardware edition. However, the Palestinian militant group has yet to comment on Israel's claim.

The footage was released following the Hamas chief’s death in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Israeli military officials said that Sinwar’s remains were found in a bulletproof vest, grenades, and 40,000 shekels. Last week, drone footage showed the Hamas chief critically wounded in his final moments, throwing an object at the drone.

The autopsy revealed that Sinwar was killed by a gunshot to the head, and also found one of his fingers was cut off. Hamas said that Sinwar died heroically engaging in battle.

Sinwar was the mastermind in orchestrating the devastating October 7 ‘surprise attack’ that left over 1,200 people dead and led to the abduction of around 250 Israelis, which escalated the conflict between Israel and Hamas. He had served as the head of Hamas in Gaza since 2017 and recently ascended to the role of chief following the suspected Israeli assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.
