Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar was killed in an Israeli attack on Wednesday, and the details of his death were released by Israel. According to the chief pathologist at the Israel National Center of Forensic Medicine, Sinwar died because of a gunshot wound on his head, and his DNA was matched later with one of his fingers. 

According to reports, his body was found at hideout by some Israeli troops and his body was later also sent for DNA testing to identify him, the pathologist who examined him confirmed to CNN.

Chen Kugel, chief pathologist at the Israel National Center of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv, said, "After the laboratory made the profile, we compared it with the profile that Sinwar had in the term that he was serving here as a prisoner, so then we could identify him finally by his DNA," as quoted by CNN.

Kugel said that Israeli forces first tried to identify him with his teeth from the photos that were taken when he was in prison in Israel, but it wasn't "certified enough." Yahya Sinwar was released from the prisons of Israel in 2011 in a prisoner swap deal for an Israeli soldier. 

After the confirmation of Sinwar's death, the body was takento the forensic center at 9.30 pm in Tel Aviv, where the DNA examination took place. There were photographs and videos released in which a deceased man could be seen wearing a watch on his right hand and a scarf. Later, a video emerged on social media that showed the watch was removed and a finger was missing from his left hand, CNN confirmed.

Eearlier, the chief pathologist who autopsied the body of Yahya Sinwar confirmed that the Hamas leader died by a gunshot wound to the head. “The cause of death is (a) gunshot wound in the head. He has a bullet in his head, and there’s a severe traumatic brain injury,” Kugel said. 

Meanwhile, Israel has warned that they would further escalate the attacks if the hostages were not returned to Israel. However, Hamas released a statement claiming that they will continue the war and killing Yayha Sinwar will not break their spirit.
