Bajaj Riki E Rickshaw: Bajaj Auto, India's leading manufacturer of bikes and three-wheelers, has made a strategic move into the country's rapidly growing e-rickshaw market with the launch of the Riki, expanding its portfolio beyond traditional two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The timing is crucial, as the e-rickshaw segment has witnessed a significant surge post the COVID-19 pandemic, adding over 45,000 vehicles monthly. The Bajaj Riki is offered in two variants: the P4005 passenger variant and the C4005 cargo variant, priced at Rs 1.91 lakh and Rs 2.01 lakh (ex-showroom).

Bajaj Riki: Range, Features

The Bajaj Riki P4005 is equipped with a 5.4 kWh battery pack with certified range of 149km, which is claimed to be the highest in the e-rickshaw passenger segment. On the other hand, the cargo variant delivers a claimed 164km range. The variants offer fast charging support, enabling the e-rickshaw to charge in 4.5 hours. Bajaj also offers a three-year battery warranty on both variants.

Unlike other e-rickshaws in the segment, the Bajaj Riki features a monocoque chassis, independent suspension, and hydraulic brakes, providing improved structural durability and stability, as well as safer and smoother ride experience.

Having undergone extensive testing in Patna, Moradabad, Guwahati, and Raipur, the Riki e-rickshaw is designed to address long-standing reliability and safety issues in the current e-rickshaw market. Key issues with the existing products include limited range, lead-acid battery corrosion, inadequate braking systems, and insufficient service infrastructure.

Bajaj Riki Expansion Plan

Bajaj Auto plans to initially roll out the Riki in over 100 towns across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Assam, capitalising on its extensive nationwide service network.
