The BMW Group and Tata Technologies, a global company specialising in digital services and product engineering, have collaborated to form a Joint Venture (JV) with the goal of setting up an automotive software and IT development hub in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai in India. However, the JV agreement is still waiting for approval from the relevant authorities.

Commenting on the collaboration, Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, said, “Our collaboration with the BMW Group demonstrates our commitment to providing top-tier solutions in automotive software and digital engineering to customers across the world.”
The main activities for development and operations will take place in Bengaluru and Pune, while Chennai will focus on business IT solutions. This partnership reflects the idea of 'engineer in India for the world,' as the JV will tap int Tata Technologies' expertise in digital engineering in India. This collaboration aims to strengthen BMW Group's software coding capabilities globally, with round-the-clock operations.
The JV's main focus will be on strategic software development, particularly solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDV). This includes areas like automated driving, infotainment and digital services. Additionally, there will be a focus on digitising and automating product development, production and sales processes. Initially, the JV will kick off with 100 skilled professionals from Tata Technologies, who will immediately start working on software projects. Over time, the JV is expected to grow significantly, potentially reaching a four-digit number of employees in the coming years.

Alexander Buresch, CIO and Senior Vice President of BMW Group IT said, “The expansion of international DevOps hubs has clearly proved to be a successful model for the BMW Group.
