Most people in India look for more fuel efficient cars but cars with good mileage usually lack when it comes to performance. However, automobile manufacturers have now started producing cars that offer good mileage while also excelling in performance. Maintaining your car to make sure it continues to offer the same fuel efficiency for a longer period of time can be challenging. Here are some essential tips to boost your car's fuel efficiency without compromising on its performance.

Maintaining Tyre Pressure

You can keep the fuel efficiency of your car in check by maintaining the right tyre pressure. Underinflated tyres make your car work harder and use more fuel while overinflated tyres wear out faster. However, properly inflated tyres minimise rolling resistance on the road resulting in lesser fuel consumption. It is advised to use a tire pressure gauge regularly to ensure optimal tyre pressure.

Reduce Extra Weight

You can boost the fuel efficiency of your car by reducing some weight off of your car. Clear out unnecessary stuff like heavy tools, extra clothes or sports equipment. Extra weight in your car results in more energy and more fuel consumption.

Use Cruise Control

Cruise control is a common feature that is now available in modern-age cars and is a great way to save fuel, especially on highways. It helps in increasing the fuel economy as it keeps a steady speed, preventing unnecessary fuel consumption. However, avoid using it on hilly or windy roads and in heavy traffic.

Avoid Idling

It is advisable to switch off your engine when it's not needed like while waiting or being stuck in traffic as idling results in wastage of fuel. In places like India, where it's common to leave the engine running in hot weather with the AC on, it's crucial to turn it off when you can. Also, consider buying a new car with auto-start-stop feature if you can as it helps in saving fuel by turning off the engine when not in use, like at a traffic light.
