Car Driving Tips: Indians usually prefer cars with better mileage, however, cars with good fuel economy figures often sacrifice in performance. Considering this, manufacturers have now started developing cars that excel in both mileage and performance. In addition to this, it is necessary for us to take certain steps to sustain your car’s mileage output. This can be a challenging task, but these tips can help improve mileage without compromising performance.

Remove Additional Weight

To improve your car's fuel efficiency, consider removing excess weight. Items like heavy tools, extra clothes, or sports equipment can be left at home to reduce the load on your vehicle. This reduction in weight will lower energy consumption and improve fuel efficiency.

Tyre Pressure

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is crucial for your car's fuel efficiency. Tyres that are not inflated properly increase fuel consumption as the car works harder, while overinflated tyres wear out faster. Properly inflated tyres reduce rolling resistance, leading to lower fuel consumption. Regularly check your tyre pressure using a tyre pressure gauge to ensure it is at the optimal level.

Avoid Idling

To improve fuel efficiency, consider turning off your engine when it's not needed, such as when waiting or stuck in traffic. In countries like India where the weather is mostly hot, it's common to leave the engine running with the AC on. However, trying to turn it off whenever possible is crucial. Additionally, if you're planning to buy a new car, consider one with an auto-start-stop feature, which saves fuel by automatically shutting off the engine when not in use, such as at a traffic light.

Cruise Control

Cruise control has now become a standard feature in contemporary cars, and is a resourceful feature for saving fuel, especially on highways. By maintaining a consistent speed, it reduces unnecessary fuel consumption and can improve fuel economy. However, it's best to avoid using cruise control on hilly or windy roads, as well as in heavy traffic.
