Legal Car Modifications In India

Body Kit Installation: You can install body kits like cladding, side panels or front splitters to enhance your car's looks, as long as they are attached properly and do not affect the vehicle's structure.

Colour Change: Changing your car's colour is allowed but you need approval from the RTO. Some colours, like Army Green, are reserved for military vehicles. Ensure to update your registration certificate with the new paint details.

Body Wrapping: Applying vinyl wraps on your car's surface for protection or aesthetics is legal. If the wrap matches your car's original colour, no RTO approval is needed. For different colours, inform the RTO and update your registration certificate accordingly.

Aftermarket CNG Kits: Installing CNG kits after purchasing your car is allowed. Update your vehicle documents with the local RTO and mention the CNG kit in your registration certificate.

Suspension Changes: Modifying your suspension for better comfort is allowed, provided it does not significantly change the vehicle's ground clearance.

Illegal Car Modifications in India

Additional Lights: Installing lights above specified heights or exceeding the permitted number of headlights is illegal. Lights that blind others or are placed incorrectly are also prohibited.

Aftermarket Exhausts: Equipping your car with loud aftermarket exhausts is against the law if they exceed the permissible noise levels.

Tinted Screens: Dark tinted screens that hinder visibility are illegal, especially on front and rear windows.

Bull Bars: Aftermarket bull bars, which can compromise safety during crashes, are not allowed as they impact the vehicle's structure and airbag functionality.

Fancy Number Plates: Using fancy number plates instead of high-security registration plates mandated by law is illegal.
