Suzuki Motors Hits 30 Million 'Vehicle Manufacturing' Mark In India, A Look At Company's Latest Milestone

Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has achieved a remarkable milestone in India by producing 30 million vehicles by the end of March 2024. This achievement places India as the second country, after Japan, where Suzuki has reached this milestone. Another impressive feat is that India accomplished this milestone in just 40 years and 4 months since production began in December 1983, breaking Japan's record of 55 years and 2 months.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto stands out as the top-selling model, with over 5.06 million units produced, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Swift at 3.19 million units sold and the Maruti Suzuki WagonR with 3.18 million units sold. 

Suzuki's journey in India began in December 1983 with the production of the Maruti 800 by Maruti Udyog, the predecessor of Maruti Suzuki. Today, production takes place at the Gurgaon and Manesar Plants of Maruti Suzuki, along with the Gujarat Plant of Suzuki Motor Gujarat. These facilities manufacture 16 different models, ranging from compact cars like the WagonR, Swift and Baleno to SUVs such as the Brezza and Fronx.

Although the current annual production capacity in India stands at 2.25 million units, Suzuki has ambitious plans for the future. By the fiscal year 2030, they aim to increase the production capacity to around 4 million units to meet the growing demands of the Indian automobile market. To achieve this, Suzuki plans to commence operations at a new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana, in 2025. Additionally, a new plant in Gujarat is scheduled to start operations in the fiscal year 2028.
