CNG Car Maintenance Tips: In India, the automotive market is highly price-sensitive and fuel efficiency is a top priority for car buyers. CNG-powered cars offer excellent fuel economy and CNG is cheaper than petrol, making them a popular choice. However, maintaining a CNG car and installing a CNG kit requires caution to prevent accidents. Here are some important maintenance tips to keep in mind when owning a CNG vehicle.\

Install CNG-Compatible Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are essential for fuel combustion in the engine. When installing a CNG kit, ensure you use spark plugs that are compatible with CNG. If you cannot find CNG-compatible spark plugs, reduce the gap between the spark source and the metal tip to ensure proper ignition.

Always Start on Petrol

When starting a CNG car, begin in petrol mode until the engine warms up. Once the engine reaches its optimal operating temperature, switch to CNG mode. This practice helps extend the engine's life by ensuring enough lubrication before using CNG fuel.

Regular Checks

Regularly inspect the CNG cylinder and fuel lines for any leaks or damage. Avoid overfilling the cylinder, as this can cause gas leaks, which can be dangerous. Regularly servicing the CNG kit at an authorised service centre can help identify and fix any issues early.

Switch Off the Ignition While Refuelling

Always turn off your car’s ignition when refuelling with CNG. Keeping the engine running can lead to sparks, which could ignite the CNG and cause an explosion. For safety, switch off the ignition before refuelling.

Check Cylinder Pressure

Monitor the cylinder pressure during refuelling to ensure it does not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended level. Overfilling can lead to leaks and increase the risk of fire. Use the gauge on the refilling machine to measure the pressure accurately.

Park the Vehicle in Shade

Park your CNG car in a shaded or covered area to avoid direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can increase the car’s internal temperature, potentially causing the CNG cylinder to expand and explode. Keeping the car cool helps prevent such hazards.
