Creta EV Launch In India: Hyundai has officially announced that it will launch the Creta EV in the Indian market in January 2025. Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai Motor India, shared this news during a recent media call. He mentioned that the company is applying insights from its Ioniq 5 EV sales to this new model. Production of the Hyundai Creta EV is set to begin by the end of 2024.

Currently, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV is undergoing extensive testing both in India and internationally. It is one of the three significant upcoming mid size electric SUVs, aiming to compete with the anticipated Tata Curvv EV. The Creta EV will be built at Hyundai's Chennai plant, likely on the same production line as the standard Creta. Sharing components with the regular Creta will help cut down on costs, however, the EV will feature unique styling tweaks to distinguish it.
Hyundai Creta EV - Battery
The Creta EV is anticipated to share its electric motor with the entry-level version of the new-generation Kona Electric available in international markets. This motor is expected to produce a power output of about 138 bhp and 255 Nm of torque, powered by a 45kWh battery pack. This battery is smaller than those in the MG ZS EV (50.3kWh) and the upcoming Maruti eVX (48-60kWh). The Creta EV is likely to feature a front-mounted charging port similar to the Kona EV.
Hyundai Creta EV - Design & Features
Talking about its design, the Creta EV will sport a closed-off grille, slightly different front and rear bumpers and aero-optimised alloy wheels. Moving inside, it will have a unique steering wheel and a redesigned centre console. The drive selector will be located on the steering column, similar to the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5.
Following the launch of the Creta EV, Hyundai plans to launch a mass-market compact EV in 2026. While details on this second EV are still under wraps, Garg emphasised that lessons from the Ioniq and Kona Electric will ensure the Creta EV is a successful product. Hyundai aims to introduce five EVs in India by 2030 and is also considering hybrid vehicles for the future.
